The “relax” bench design took a year to create. The inspiration came while on vacation – noticing many benches in parks and walkways. After sitting in many benches it was discovered that design and comfort did not always match.
The sketchbook came out and the intent was to create a bench with ultimate comfort and the look of interior furniture. The first drawings were focussed on having arm rests on both ends to look like a couch. Then the reality of function, aesthetics, manufacturing ability, and cost changed the focus.

Two years in the making, this sign was designed and created in honour of the 30th anniversary of business in Morden, Manitoba. The evolution of Checker Signs over the years has moved from hand painted signs and screen printing, to digital imaging and dimensional signage.
Merle wanted to feature all of the products that are in use at Checker Signs. This anniversary edition sign features some of the mediums that are in use in a number of Checker Signs creations. We have been working with the Minnewasta Golf Course for years, providing them with products for fundraising with this donor wall and bench advertising, in addition to billboards and interior signage.
Community organizations need to honour those who donate to their charities and fundraising projects. This donor wall project had the challenge that it had to complement a grand post and beam structure. A robust and rugged look that was elegant for the Minnewasta Golf Course club house foyer.
Product research, development and investment was enterprised for this project. Investigating GFRC (glass fibre reinforced concrete) products was the focus for this project. Prototype development was required to meet the customer’s needs.
